Abstract
This study examined the challenges encountered in Landscape Architecture (LA) education at Guangdong Ecological Engineering Vocational College, China, focusing on both academic and non-academic barriers and the role of Student Affairs in addressing them. Employing a descriptive-correlational design, data were collected from 150 LA students, 10 staff members, and 25 faculty members through validated survey instruments. Results revealed academic challenges including outdated curricula, disorganized course structures, insufficient resources, and weak practical training. Non-academic issues such as low motivation and cultural displacement further hindered student engagement. The evaluation of Student Affairs programs identified gaps in mental health support, career services, and vocational resource provision. Correlation analysis showed that institutional challenges were significantly related to the effectiveness of student affairs initiatives, particularly in retention, academic support, and employability outcomes. The study proposed an action plan emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration, mental health initiatives, and strengthened school–enterprise partnerships to enhance student affairs effectiveness. These findings underscore the pivotal role of Student Affairs as an integrative framework to improve student engagement, reduce attrition, and foster employability in vocational Landscape Architecture education.
